RxFiles - About Us

RxFiles is an academic detailing program providing objective, comparative drug information to clinicians. The program began in 1997 as a service for Saskatoon family physicians.
In 2000, the program was expanded to provide service to physicians throughout Saskatchewan. Efforts to keep our drug selection tools up to date resulted in the publication of the RxFiles Drug Comparison Charts book, beginning in 2001. The book has become a practical tool for evidence based and clinically relevant drug use information throughout Canada.
In 2018, we moved to the University of Saskatchewan, and are based out of the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition.

1. What is academic detailing?Academic detailing is the process of providing balanced, non-commercial, evidence-based information & education for individual health practitioners in their office. It is adopted from the pharmaceutical industry's practice of 'detailing' physicians about new drugs; with academic detailing the sales agenda is removed. The concept was pioneered by Stephen Somerai and Jerry Avorn in the USA. One-on-one interactive discussions with physicians at their practice site has been shown to be
one of the most successful methods to support and improve therapeutic decision making.
2. I'm a health professional in Saskatchewan. How do I access RxFiles online?
You can sign up for access at

3. What does shipping cost when ordering from the RxFiles store?
Note: purchasing an online subscription does not influence shipping (i.e. does not help qualify for free shipping, does not add to courier charges, etc.).
Shipping to Canada: regular mail free if purchasing at least $125 of materials; otherwise $15. Courier ground $30 (for orders less than $250) or $50 (for orders of $250 or more). Courier air $35 (for orders less than $250) or $55 (for orders of $250 or more).
Shipping to USA: regular mail $20 (for orders less than $125) or $25 (for orders $125 or more). Courier ground $30 (for orders less than $250) or $50 (for orders of $250 or more). Courier air $65 (for orders less than $250) or $75 (for orders of $250 or more).
Shipping outside of North America: Courier air $65 (for orders less than $250) or $75 (for orders of $250 or more).
